Therapeutic communication: Therapeutic communication is simply talking to a client (or others) in a way that leaves the door open for them to feel safe and secure in talking to you. It is non-judgmental, non-assuming, and accepting. Learning to use therapeutic communication with patients is as important as learning to dress them. It is a basic skill of any healthcare worker.

Caregivers engage in therapeutic communication with their clients using these techniques: Open-ended questions, Silence at appropriate times, Short responses, Let your patient lead the conversation, Let your patient know that you are available, Engage with your patients, Utilize reflection response, Seek clarifications, Never be disapproving to you clients, Never change the subject
